Call In On Christmas???

So Christmas was yesterday….

Everybody on my timeline was all …

And I was here like …

For the last couple years I’ve been kind of meh on Christmas. It’s a family holiday and because 90% of my family lives in Trinidad, the small and private Christmas lunch (not dinner) my mom, dad and I have, has become a bore. Sorry.

This year I opted to work on Christmas Eve and day. After all, holiday pay only comes a few times a year and I love me some coins. I was scheduled to work a night flight to Sacramento on the merry holiday. To say the least, the flight was long, boring and annoying. Flying coast to coast is never fun.

We got to Sacramento around 10pm and we gathered up to head out for drinks about 11ish after getting settled in our hotel. Our first stop was supposed to be a bar called “Dive Bar”, which actually isn’t what you would think given the name. The main attraction at Dive Bar are “mermaids” who swim around in tanks above the main bar area. When we got there, I realized I forgot my ID inside the hotel (Merry Christmas) and that there were no mermaids tonight.

Plan B?? On the way back up to my room, I did a quick google search and found another bar in the area called “Coin Op”, an arcade game bar. My inner geek was practically screaming out at me so we all agreed to give it a try.

Coin Op operates from 4pm-2am. They offer more than 40 arcade games which line the walls around the establishment and have a simple bar/pub menu. The even cooler thing about Coin Op is the price of each game is what it was priced when it was created. Soooo…Pac-Man is a quarter.

Unfortunately we were talking and drinking so much we didn’t get to take a crack at any arcade games before the bar closed but the food and drinks made up for that. The Casey Jones pizza was DELICIOUS for a bar made pizza and the punch bowl we got was almost like a watermelon margarita.

Leonardo pizza , Casey Jones pizza (half no bacon) and the Isabel’s great adventure punch bowl

The next morning we went out to a local famous soup and sandwich place called Muntean’s Soup. This place was super busy when we got there and the lines were continuous while we ate. Muntean’s speciality is soup and sandwiches and they offer differently combo deals depending on your fancy.

I ordered the soup sampler and got two cups of  vegetarian chili and spicy red pepper soup with a piece of bread.

I love good hearty soup and this place definitely lived up to that. A lot of people feel something needs meat to taste good but if you can cook a meal without meat and it taste delicious, the cook is doing something right! The owner, Muntean was behind the counter making you laugh and brining a very vivacious feel to the shop.
