So I have friends in all aspects of life. I met my friend Chrissy through a carnival group named, WFYG (Which Fete Yuh Going). It’s centralized around people that enjoy Caribbean Carnival culture and the events, carnivals and fetes they go to.
After getting to know her I realized her talent in costume design.
Here’s a little about Chrissy and some of her work.
She started decorating her own boots for Trinidad carnival 2 years ago. Usually, if you want anything customized for Carnival you have to go to a mad designer. Prices for boots can range anywhere from $60-$150, depending on the boot, style and intricacy of design that you want. Costume customization is even more. Her interest in costume construction led her to a mas camp in Brooklyn . There she learned the basics of backpack making, wire bra decoration and feather placement.
“I love to take old things and make them new again with a little creativity and imagination. Everything that I have created I incorporated old costumes bras, jewels,trim,feathers etc into a unique creation” , She says.
